Why should you advertise on Ethanol On Tap?

This a review of an article in Entrepreneur Magazine for November of 2008.

GO BIG OR GO HOME

What a headline! The author, Robert Kiyosaki, explains this during a business luncheon with around 500 local business leaders where he told them he had good news and bad news for them. "The good news is you will have fewer competitors next year because many of your competitors will be out of business. The bad news is that you might be one of those out of business." He then went on to tell these business leaders what he meant as he held up a local newspaper. From this newspaper he held up a full-page ad for a local appliance store an remarked, "I'll bet money that this business will be here next year. Why? Because this business is advertising more aggressively than its competition."

Mr. Kiyosaki told those in the room of how his dad taught him how when business drops off, many entrepreneurs listen to their account's advice and cut back on advertising and promotion. This is, as he explained, one of the worst things you can do. Instead he went on to say "When times get tough, your job is to promote more, not less."

The reason we bring this article to your attention to encourage you to examine your own advertising campaigns. How are you doing compared to this time a year ago? Two years ago? Sales are down in most all areas and you should feel lucky if you have not experienced a drop in sales. Admittedly the first place most companies cut in the budget is advertising, but stop and review Mr. Kiosaki's comments above to see if your business fits into any (or all) of his statements. Recalling a business associate's email one day that proves that cutting advertising budgets please the accountants but no the customers. This man related a story about tough times that his business went through and he did, as most do, cut his advertising budget. Soon sales orders dropped even more than they had bee so he began calling on once lucrative accounts in person. On his second call he said the meeting was like a bucket of cold water in his face. After exchanging pleasantries with his former client he heard these words from his client, "I thought you were out of business, I haven't heard from you in so long." Ouch! Imagine wondering where your sales went and realizing you were the cause of the drop in orders.

Advertising here on Ethanol On Tap isn't the silver bullet that will instantly restore your sales, but it is a good addition to an aggressive adverting campaign like the appliance store mentioned in Mr. Kiyosakis' article above. Placing ads on Ethanol On Tap should be done in addition to other advertising opportunities to be sure that you are covering all bases. What you want to do is to get your company name out before the public more than you did in the past. You especially want to do this to try to reclaim customers that you may no longer have the pleasure of doing business with.
