Driving around town you will take notice of many gas stations offering ethanol promoting the use of their ethanol products in FFVs. A good many of you are likely wondering what a FFV is and do you need it?

Well, the term FFV merely stands for "Flex-Fuel Vehicles". FFV's are simply American built and import vehicles that run on a certain percentage of ethanol as the main fuel. Generally this percentage of ethanol that these FFVs run on is up to 85%.

There have actually been FFVs in production since the 1980's with many automobile and truck manufacturers offering more than one model of their line as an FFV.

You might wonder if an ethanol fueled vehicle runs as well as one that is not using ethanol. The answer is yes with one exception, FFVs generally deliver 20 to 30% fewer miles per gallon due to the fact that a gallon of ethanol contains less energy than fossil fuels.
