Fleets & Ethanol Notes

Ethanol News Links

No one knows about the skyrocketing price of fuel better than fleet operators. No matter if your fleet is 3 plumbing vans or 250 taxicabs, you need relief at the pump. Question one in your mind is whether or not ethanol fulfills the need you have. Given that ethanol is better and less expensive you need to consider the likelihood of lower miles per gallon using ethanol. Will the price difference of ethanol balance out the lower MPG?

There is some help for fleet operators considering the move to ethanol. The U.S. Department of Energy has a great "E85 Fleet Toolkit" online that just might answer your questions before you actually make the switch to ethanol.

In the words of the government web site:

Fleets can use this toolkit to assist in:

  • Evaluating the best options for their fleets,
  • Learning about the equipment and technologies required to install an E85 fueling site,
  • Learning about other fleets' successes and difficulties in implementing E85 infrastructure,
  • Getting important contact information and resources, and
  • Developing E85 (85% ethanol/15% gasoline) fueling stations.
